Beginning his professional basketball career in 1981, Rolando Blackman
played 11 years with the Mavericks and another two years with the New York
Knicks. During his NBA career he was a four-time NBA All-Star and starter on
the 1980 Olympic Team. He was a favorite with Dallas fans and holds numerous
team records. Rolando is currently the Maverick's Director of Basketball
Development after one season as an assistant coach on Avery Johnson’s
staff, five seasons as a player development coach and two seasons as the
program’s director.
Blackman also has an impressive career in broadcasting including: radio and
television show hosts, color commentator for the Big 12 Conference,
presenter at The Sports Emmys, game analyst on HSE and Channel 11 and writer
and producer of a public television special on hazardous chemicals. Rolando
is involved with many local and national charities and devotes endless hours
to community service.
