Robert L. Greene (Bob) is an accomplished business executive,
investment professional, public servant, and philanthropist with
deep expertise and broad experience at transforming opportunities
into successes!
Bob is a Principal with Syncom Venture Partners; a leading venture capital firm focused on multistage equity investments in high growth segments of the Media & Communications industry. Bob leads Syncom’s Investor Relations and Business Development efforts. He is responsible for maintaining and expanding the firm’s relationships with its 32 limited partners, and targeting institutional investors for future investment with the firm. He also supports the growth of the firm’s portfolio companies by planning and executing strategies to generate top line revenues and strategic relationships.
In 2008, Bob received a gubernatorial appointment to serve as a Trustee for the Virginia Retirement System (VRS). VRS is a $51 billion pension plan sponsor serving Virginia's public sector employees. The board of trustees oversees the administration of VRS's various benefit programs and works with VRS's Investment Team to execute strategies that grow the plan's assets. Additionally, Bob serves as Chairman of VRS's Audit & Compliance Committee and is a previous member of the plan’s Administration & Personnel Committee. ??
Bob has been actively involved in the leadership and development of what has come to be known as America’s Emerging Domestic Market. He served concurrently as President of the National Association of Investment Companies (NAIC), and as President of The Marathon Club For Entrepreneurship. During his tenure the organizations launched the Journal of EDM Finance magazine, created The Dealmakers Summit and developed a series of beneficial strategic alliances with the Executive Leadership Council, New America Alliance and The Plan Sponsor Consortium.
Previously, Bob was Director of Private Equity with Arthur Andersen's Transaction Advisory Services Practice. In this capacity he provided due diligence and other advisory services to some of the largest private equity firms in the nation like Allied Capital, Texas Pacific Group and The Carlyle Group.
Bob began his career in the Media & Communications Industry with AT&T Business Services, where he held a variety of challenging managerial positions in corporate strategy, finance, product management and sales. Bob was selected for the prestigious AT&T Leadership Continuity Program (LCP), which was designed to provide high performance managers with opportunities for enhanced career development.
Bob holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from Virginia
Commonwealth University, in Richmond, Virginia. He served as President
of the Student Government (1990-’91) and was a recipient
of numerous awards including the university's Distinguished Service
Award. Upon graduating from VCU, Bob was appointed to the highly
coveted Virginia Governor's Fellows Program, serving in the Office
of the Attorney General of Virginia.
Bob holds lifetime memberships in The Marathon Club for Entrepreneurship,
National Eagle Scout Association, National INROADS Alumni Association,
and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
Bob was recently selected to The Root 100, a list of notable African-Americans under the age of 45 by The Root.com, a publication of The Washington Post. He is a highly sought after speaker for many organizations and finance industry conferences. He has keynoted on a variety of business topics including fiduciary responsibility, venture capital, entrepreneurship, and the value of investing in emerging managers.
