Outspoken, Insightful, Visionary, Compassionate, Youthful, Funny are some of the ways LaVar Young; President of Newark Now has been described. As a rising star amongst his peers, LaVar has been featured in numerous media outlets for his achievements in community programming and motivation of fathers. Before becoming President of Newark Now LaVar was Director of Fathers Now which gained national attention for the remarkable results of re-connecting absent fathers to their children.

When asked about his passion, LaVar says that he owes it to becoming a young father and being lost when it came to the responsibilities fatherhood brings. LaVar says because of his son, failure was no longer an option. If the cycle of absent fathers was going to be broken within his family, it started with him.

Recently, LaVar spoke on the “Peace Within” Panel at the Newark Peace Education Summit with His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama and other honorable dignitaries. In 2010, he also attended a round table discussion on fatherhood initiatives at the White House with President Obama.
To further expand on his passion for addressing social issues affecting urban communities around the country, LaVar is a contributing blogger for The Huffington Post. You can read his articles at www.huffingtonpost.com/lavar-young.
