Janet Hubert, perhaps best known for her work as the original feisty Vivian Banks on the 90's hit the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, is on a mission. She was the original mom and is NOW a real life mother on a mission. Not only has she recently appeared on hits such as The Jamie Foxx Show, Bernie Mac, Gilmore Girls, and Friends, she set the Adelphi winning show, Crowns, written by Regina Taylor, at the McCarter Theatre, danced, sang, and acted in the George Faison version of For Colored Girls, and has started an online site dedicated to bring quality children's stories for all children, but especially ethnic children.
She has worked for many years with various health organizations, including The National Osteoporosis Foundation, National Minority Health, and Bio, bringing in other celeb friends including Bernie Mac, Richard Roundtree, and Pattie Labelle, to speak on their personal stories. She is a tireless advocate for children, traveling to churches, community centers and schools reading stories, in an attempt to help change the mindset of children today. Hubert introduced a line of Backpacks, Lunch Totes to the Wal-Mart stores last Fall just in time for back to school, even hanging her bags herself with customers.
"JG and the BC Kids shines the spotlight
on issues that affect our children everywhere," she states. "The
lure of fitting in -- being a part of the crowd are just some of the
central issues". That is the message of "JG", her central
character. Ultimately, Hubert's goal is to bring street-smart- kids
and book-smart kids together and create life-smart kids.
Says Janet, "These characters are bold and confident, they are
bright children and they are beautiful on the inside and caring on
the outside."
2010 marked an important milestone for Hubert. It had been 20 years since she left "Fresh Prince...", her son graduated from High School and she will finally publish a book detailing her departure from the hit NBC series - the real story. Thus, she has penned her own memoir entitled PERFECTION IS NOT A SITCOM MOM (because too many writers were afraid that if they associated with this story they would never work again in Hollywood). PERFECTION IS NOT A SITCOM MOM, is available for download on AUDIBLE.COM, along with her children's story, A SNEAKER FEATURE. Hubert's LIFE AFTER was the favorite episode season opener for TV ONE network.
"We decided to put the information online initially as a strong
statement to those we call the gatekeepers, whose idea is control
the content that our children see", states Hubert.
Hubert believes in the motto, "It’s time to take back the
children,"
She is now partnered with Cosmic Toast Studios as they begin to bring
JG and the BC Kids to animation.
Like Vivian Banks, she is always ready to
snatch off her earrings and get down to business.
PERFECTION IS NOT A SITCOM MOM available now on AMAZON, BARNES &
