Genma Stringer Holmes actress, model, and speaker turned entrepreneur caused quite a stir several years ago by starting an environmental pest control company. Holmes Pest Control is a commercial pest control company that serves businesses throughout the State of Tennessee. Genma Stringer Holmes has carved her place in the 8 billion dollar pest control industry.
"When I started this company, people laughed. No one thought I would last,” Holmes stated recently with a big smile on her face. “How’s that for keeping you motivated?” she added. Nearly two decades years later, Genma is considered an expert in environmental solutions by pest management professionals.
Known for her public relations work with Carol Wior, Inc, Genma used her marketing and PR knowledge to brand Holmes Pest Control and to raise awareness for the use of safe and effective environmental pesticides. She has taken the message about her company to businesses, universities and schools, women groups and to Congress.
In 2005, Genma returned to the PR field by starting a marketing firm, GSH Consulting, LLC. She worked has worked with billionaire entrepreneur David Steward, Dr. Robert Watkins, Promise Keepers and Alexis’ Famous Pies.
Genma is a dedicated volunteer and is active in organizations, both public and private in Nashville and nationally. She served as 2008 Chair of the Gathering Fund for the Oasis Center in Nashville along with her 17 year old daughter, Alexis. The mother daughter duo helped raise $300,000 for the center. Genma also lead the team to help raise $9,000.000 to fund the first America Promise Alliance’s “Promise Place”, an all inclusive youth center for teens and young adults. .
Genma’s philanthropy work and civic involvement have been recognized by many. For her work with the Oasis Center, she was honored by the Enterprising Women Magazine as ‘2009 Enterprising Woman of the Year”, named a community “Do Right” by Wynonna and Naomi Judd, and Southeastern Network of Youth and Family Services, Board Member of the Year in 2007. Genma was named one of the country’s Top 40 under Forty Influential African American in 2006. In 2005, she was named Madam C. J. Walker Award Recipient.
Genma is a founding member of Minorities in Pest Management and serves as Chairperson of this organization. Genma is the first minority to chair a committee in the National Pest Management Association. She was nominated for Business of the Year, and won the TrailBlazer Award in 2000 from Minority Business Exchange. She has been involved in many organizations that advocate for women and women business owners. That list includes the following: Leadership Donelson Hermitage, Young Leaders Council, Memphis Society of Entrepreneurs, Top Forty Under 40, National Association of Women Business Owners board member, National Association of Female Executives, Professional Women in Pest Management and the National Pest Managers Association and Christian Executives Officers Fellowships. Genma is active volunteer for Bethlehem Centers of Nashville. She was the first recipient of BCN Possibilities Award. Genma is also a life time member of the Girl Scouts of America.
This year Genma has been featured in numerous publications and to date has been on the cover of 20+ magazines.
