Devin C. Hughes
The Chief Inspiration Officer
Devin Hughes is a former college basketball player at Colgate
University, speaker, personal and organizational development aficionado,
leadership coach and eclectic thinker. He is an avid storyteller
who has the unique ability to connect with audiences by inspiring
them to be the change they wish to see in the world.
Devin has been consulting, training, speaking and writing about
personal development and organizational change for the last decade.
Devin’s unique background and success story truly sets him
apart from most professional speakers and guest lecturers. It’s
for this very reason that people come away from his keynotes entertained,
inspired and motivated – but more importantly, with the
practical, applicable, actionable tactics and strategies for acting
on their inspiration and motivation. By the end of his programs,
participants are equipped to deal with the day-to-day challenges
they face.
People often ask Devin why giving back is so important to him.
No need to look any further than his own history of overcoming
adversity. As a mixed race child — his father is black,
his mother (now deceased) was white — he never felt truly
accepted in either community. He was diagnosed with dyslexia at
nine years old, which made him feel different and deficient and
required tutoring up through high school. His father is bi-polar...they
were lower middle class...domestic violence was far too common.
His mother had a drug problem so he saw first-hand what drug dependency
does to relationships and families.
“After having experienced what I have gone through as a
child and come out okay on the other side, I decided that I needed
to give back and help others. I was fortunate in that I found
sports as well as some truly great coaches, tutors, and mentors
who helped me find my way out of my hole (Isolation Syndrome).
I have embarked on a journey to give back and share lessons learned
along the way that not only have helped me survive but thrive.
I represent the disenfranchised, the overweight, the non-athlete,
and the person who does not fit in. It is about progress
not perfection!” Devin
