Nigel L. Walker
Through his education, professional experience, and community service, Nigel L. Walker has developed into an esteemed educator, poet, author, motivational speaker and community activist. He is a 2010 - 2011 Teacher of the Year Candidate and honored member of the Biltmore (now Covington) Who's Who Professional Registry for excellence in education. He has published 2 poetry books and has recently released his newest work, The Underground Philosophy of Education: Teaching is NOT for Dummies (2011). He is an alumni member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and Vice President of family nonprofit organization, Susie's Bundle of Blessings, Inc.Nigel L. Walker was born February 13, 1980, to David and Jacqueline T. Walker. He was born and raised in Eufaula, AL, along with seven brothers and sisters. Jacqueline raised all eight children as a single mother in the public housing projects throughout his childhood. He began writing at an early age, and was first published in high school. By the time he earned his bachelor’s degree in Education, he had already been published in several literary magazines, and published his first poetry book, The Secret Diaries of Jean Batiste (2004). His follow-up, Rose Petals for Josephine: The Secret Diaries Volume II was released in 2007. As he continued his post-graduate studies, he also actively appeared in numerous events as a host, spoken word and poetry performer, and motivational hip hop performer.Nigel has developed a resume for public speaking through his community service and a desire to encourage others. His speaking is commonly centered on the power of education, using his inspiring story of going from humble beginnings to becoming a highly respected professional to encourage crowds of all ages; travelling from among elementary schools to colleges. He has also spoken on topics of poetry and writing, innovations in education, and community service. He takes a unique perspective of being an educator as well as a hip hop performer to create an experience that is fun for any audience. Upon request he adds an element of poetry and/or music in his delivery.Nigel L. Walker is a full-time teacher, but continues to speak, perform, and serve the community.
