    Michael humbly refers to the words of his mother who said that they went “From No House to The White House”.

    Michael is the National Deputy Director of Operation Vote, which oversees the constituency outreach programs for the Obama For America campaign.

    Operation Vote oversees all efforts to constituencies including but not limited to: African-Americans, Youth, Women, Hispanic, Faith, Veterans, Jewish, LGBT & Asian American Pacific Islander. The focus is to provide the tools and resources to support local staff to register & turnout voters, to recruit volunteers into their field program, to spread the President’s message through earned and paid media, train staff and assist with specific programming from these critical constituencies.

    He has been with the Obama organization since the completion of the Yes We Can political training program in 2006. Prior to his current position, Blake worked as Associate Director at the White House Office of Public Engagement & Deputy Associate Director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, coordinating African American, Minority Business and county elected official outreach.

    On the first Obama for America campaign, he worked in eight states over 20 months where he started as the Iowa Deputy Political Director and Constituency Outreach Director and concluded as the Michigan Deputy Director and Political Director. Prior to that, Blake was the Director of External Affairs for the Michigan House of Representatives serving in Michigan Speaker of the House Andy Dillon's cabinet. Blake successfully co-organized three state house campaigns in the 2006 election cycle. Michael is a graduate of the Medill School of Journalism from Northwestern University.

    The Bronx, New York native is an Exhorter in the African Methodist Episcopal church where is a member of Allen Chapel AME church in Washington, D.C. with the Rev. Dr. Michael E. Bell, Sr. as pastor. He is a former Certified Lay Speaker in the United Methodist Church which led to him beginning to preach at the age of 13 in The Bronx, New York mainly at his hometown church of Calvary United Methodist Church.

    Blake’s family story is a testament of not giving up despite the odds. His family is from Jamaica but came to the U.S. seeking new opportunities. His elementary school, P.S. 79, is in Jonathan Kozol’s “Savage Inequalities of Public Education”. But, he continued to work diligently to help people, which led him eventually to working at The White House.

    Michael was just selected as part of The Root 100 for 2012 honoring the top 100 African American achievers and influencers. He was previously recognized by MSNBC as one of the Top 10 Black Politicians on the rise and Time Magazine said in 2007 before the important Iowa Caucuses that “Michael Blake may have more to do with Barack Obama's chances of becoming President than anyone besides the candidate himself”.
