Aisha is a political strategist, policy analyst, and media entrepreneur with 15 years of experience in politics and policy. Over the past decade she has served as a political adviser, private-sector liaison, and fundraiser to more than 40 members of Congress including six senators and the Congressional Black Caucus. Shehas been recognized as one of the top “Forty Under 40” national gay and transgender leaders by The Advocate magazine, and as one of THE ROOT 100’s emerging and established leaders in the African-American community.
She currently serves as the Advisor for LGBT policy and racial justice at the Center for American Progress--the country's largest progressive think tank--where her work exploresthe impact of public policy on gay and transgender people of color. She has published several reports and columns on issues effecting black LGBT Americans in particular.
She was also the President of the campaign that brought marriage equality to the District of Columbia and she and her wife, Danielle, were among the first same-sex couples to receive a marriage license in the District. Their wedding was the first lesbian wedding to be featured by Essence Magazinein their popular online “Bridal Bliss” column.
Together the couple hosts Politini, a web radio show serving "politics and pop culture up with a twist!", and pen the lifestyle blog, Living, Loving & Laboring OUT Loud (threeLOL). Aisha & Danielle also give joint talks and are available for booking as a couple through Great Black Speakers bureau.
Previously, Aisha was the President of Synergy Strategy Group, a boutique fundraising and public affairs firm; Executive Director of the Congressional Black Caucus PAC; Regional Finance Director at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee; and an independent consultant to a host of federal campaigns, Members of Congress, and advocacy organizations.
She holds both a BA and MBA from the University of Maryland, College Park.
